How Does the 2026 WAV Grant Scheme Work?
To keep things fair for everyone, the NTA uses a random selection (lottery) process for all valid applications. There is no need to panic-rush your form in the first minute, as everyone has an equal chance.

Two Application Windows: The NTA opens the scheme in two phases—Round 1 in January and Round 2 in July. This gives you flexibility if you aren’t quite ready to buy a vehicle early in the year.

One Entry Rule: You can only submit one application per year.

5-Month Timeline: If your application is picked, your Provisional Grant Offer is valid for exactly 5 months. Because there are no extensions or waitlists, you’ll want to get your vehicle sorted within that window.
How Much Funding Can You Get?
The amount of money you receive depends on the age of the vehicle when it passes its suitability inspection. The maximum grant amounts for 2026 are:

Brand New WAV (under 3,000km and under 3 months old): €15,000

WAV under 1 year old: €14,500

WAV under 2 years old: €12,000

WAV under 3 years old: €11,000

WAV under 4 years old: €7,500

WAV under 5 years old: €4,000

WAV under 6 years old: €3,500
Switching to Electric? If you are buying a fully electric wheelchair-accessible vehicle, you can combine this with the eSPSV grant scheme for up to €25,000 in total funding!
